New Employee【BLOG ENGLISH】

I’ve hired two staff this year.
They have already got used to the work and are doing well.

Being in Charge of Training the Freshmen

I remember the days when I was a salary man.
I did not hold any managerial post, but was chosen to be in charge of training twelve freshmen.

Because they had just graduated their university a while ago,
I was sure they were full of energy for their new work.
However, what I found was, nervous faces.
They were only concerned if they will be liked by their seniors or not…

I had to prepare everything for them.
(Seriously! I prepared EVERY SINGLE THING except a business bag and a business card holder)

1. Business card
2. Telephone
3.  Stationary, letter set including a brush (a kind of Japanese Pen for handwriting ,a electronic calculator etc.)
4.  New target customer list
5. Desk  there were only two long desks for twelve new employees in a meeting room.
6. Business Manners & Styles

The Very Beginning Challenge I gave them

For the very beginning challenge I gave them was,
”Walk around the sales department in our branch and collect five business cards. Any five is fine.”
The aim was for them to study greeting skills as a businessman.

The Freshmen returned with their harvests.

There were two types of people…
-Those who could successfully collect five business cards
-Those who, by this point, gave up getting five business cards

I could not predict who would be successful.
One thing I said to them was, everyone could be successful if they received the right coaching.

And those successful with collecting business cards,
took time to write a thank you letter (by their handwriting brush)
I knew it was an old-style,  but thought it was the best way at that time.
I waited late until they all finished writing letters, and posted the letters together.
At last, we went out for drink together.
I repeated this kind of training over and over.

I’m sure you can guess,
they turned out to be super salesmen!
