Oversea Business Manners  – Switzerland

I’ve just returned from a trip to Europe, mainly Switzerland.
My business purpose was to study hedge fund products and the private bank system last week.

My business partner who is an Australian and lives in Switzerland had attended together with us during our stay.
He prepared the timetable for the trains, and instructed the suitable train.

We arrived the office 15 minutes before the appointment.
So we waited 10 minutes outside and entered the office just 5 minutes before.
(Because we thought we should not interrupt their work by being too early, and it would be rude if we were late.)

I initially thought this was a typical Japanese business style.
However, my business partner told me Swiss business style is also the same.

When we go to the other countries and visit the office for business,we have to think of the local manners.
And if we know the manners well, the business has a great chance of success.

Should we…
Wear a suit or a tie?
Exchange our business card?
Prepare gifts in advance?
Take our shoes off?

My business partner was very helpful to us in Europe.
If you think of going into Japan market, I would be happy to support you.
To be continued in the next number about Golf entertainment in business.
