What I’ve Learned in 2022【BLOG ENGLISH】

I hope you are well.
The year 2022 is almost over.
What have I learned in 2022?

Learned from Covid-19

In 2022,
I was able to go abroad many times
for the first time in a long while.
I once again realized how important it is to meet people.
Now, Singapore is also crowded with people.
I miss those days

when I was taking a selfie at Orchard road
with no one in the picture background.
There are daily events
around the marina area at night,
and my walk with Sora (my dog) has forced me
to change the course.

What did I see?
I saw various social problems in a confined society.
I also saw changes in human behavior.

Learned in Economy 2022-First Half

Looking at the economy,
the stock market began to decline
at the beginning of the year
due to higher policy interest rates in the US.

In February,
this was spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As a result,
inflation increased further
and prices of energy and grains in particular soared.

Learned in Economy 2022-Second Half

By mid-year,
the stock market had calmed down
and there were some signs of a rebound.
During that period, however,
the Japanese yen continued to fall,
temporarily reaching over 150 yen despite currency intervention.
Then came another round of foreign exchange intervention
and the yen’s appreciation from the point at which
U.S. interest rates appeared to be bottoming out.

Then, at its December policy meeting,
BOJ changed its long-term interest rate range
from +/-0.25% to +/-0.5%,
which further accelerated
the yen’s appreciation.

Learned with a concentration on economic/financial developments

We’ve realized that
man is a social animal.
In the economic/financial field,
I was able to see various changes
in just one year that was visible in numbers.
I don’t think I have ever had
such a concentrated year
of learning about economic/financial trends.
