While cleaning my late father’s room the other day,
I found a postcard that I wrote to my grandmother
during my journey to Central America.
~ Postcard ~~~~~
Hi grandma?
How’s everyone going?
I’ve taken buses from Mexico to Guatemala,
and now in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Can you believe I was on the bus
for the continuous 26 hours the other day?
I’m heading to El Salvador and will be back in the US.
My journey ends and be back in Japan in early September.
I am already missing so many things.
Japanese food
The wide bathtub
Good night’s sleep in the cozy bed
However, here in Central America,
I am learning a lot! Yes, a lot!
So far, I have learned the fact that
‘’ The earth is Vast, but the world is small.’’.
Take care of yourself.
Looking forward to seeing you in September.

The earth is vast, but the world is small
Oh, bad handwriting! I remember writing this on the bed. Since I was a low-budget backpacker back then, I don’t think I had a desk in the room. Studying at a desk is not the only way to learn. That’s exactly what I meant.I was desperate. Hoping to leave proof that I was alive up to that date & time written at the end of the postcard.Being rocked by the bus for continuous 26 hours, the top of my buttocks peeled and bled. Can you imagine how painful it was? Wow, that pain!! It didn’t heal for a while.I felt like I’d learned the fact that ‘’ The earth is vast, but the world is small.’’ What I’ve learned during my stay there has become |

The earth is…, Fully Understood?
36 years have passed since I wrote that postcard.
I still feel as if I have not fully understood.
The Earth is … its size and smallness are…
Today, tomorrow, and the day after,
I want to continue to spread the fold around the world.
